ADDANAC CITY Comics~ Thank You All!

Stiletto-sharp entertainment

I just wanted to take a second to say Thank You to all of my wonderful ADDANAC CITY readers. You’ve helped make March a record-setting month for the AC website.

I’ve only been creating the weirdo escapades of Hank, Christie, and Tim since August 2008, and the webcomic series hardly has the audience and notoriety of the more popular “big dog” comics like Penny Arcade and PVP, but it’s been growing steadily month by month.

Well, my little unknown webcomic named Addanac City welcomed almost 9,000 visitors this past March with over 100,000 hits and page views. That may not sound like much, but I’m well-pleased. After all, the site received less than 2,000 monthly visitors during its initial release. I just hope that everyone who stops by each day will continue to enjoy reading Hank’s comedic situations.

Once again, thank you all very much for your support!

AC ad (adult)

It seems that Hank has a teensy-weensy problem with truancy. And he appears to be a bad influence on adults as well as youngsters. I wonder if this school bus driver got to keep his job. He’d better not spend that twenty all in one place.

ADDANAC CITY Comics~ Homework Sweet Homework

I actually tried this nifty lil’ stunt when I was in the 8th grade (sorry, Ms. Miller). I loved my art classes, but I was less than enthusiastic over the remainder of my course schedule. One day I was in art class trying to finish up my English homework which was due the next period. My art teacher was stalking the room, making it difficult for me to complete that dreaded English assignment. I was at an impasse. I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t allow getting a big, fat zero on my homework, but it didn’t seem likely that I was gonna be able to finish it. What does a hopeless, conniving art student do?

I decided to take this huge jar of india ink from the Art Supply closet and strategically pour it all over my English notebook. Beforehand, I scribbled a few obscure words in the blank spaces just in case my English teacher tried to use her X-ray vision to peer through the obsidian deluge (see? I did learn something in her class).
Anyway, I applied that ink for all I was worth, then I set the notebook in front of a fan to dry it.

When English class began, I humbly approached ol’ teach and gave her my best, straight-faced sob story about the unfortunate debacle that I suffered in art class when one of my inept peers spilled stuff all over my books. I pretended to be distraught because “Darnit, I worked hard on that assignment!”

My English teacher clucked her tongue softly, then gazed at me sympathetically. She advised me to be more careful with my belongings when I was in art class. She then proceeded to give me credit for the assignment as I solemnly pledged that it would never happen again. 🙂

I got away with that ploy but, later in life, while developing ADDANAC CITY, I wondered how far Hank would push the situation. I never tried that trick again, but I could see Hank attempting it continually, just pressing his luck. This comic is the result of that idea. I hope you all enjoyed it.

AC 25

(comic previously posted 9/16/08 on http://www.addanaccity.com)

I love creating the strips where Hank and Christie have a battle of wits. I think their whole relationship is quite interesting. In this strip, Christie attempts to gain the upper hand on him. In the end, it appears that Hank has won yet again.

ADDANAC CITY 9/03/08 Hank & His Report Card

Photobucket

This is one of my early strip favorites. When I started this revamp of ADDANAC CITY (the first incarnation came out in late 1994), Hank was never intended to be the epitome of a model student. He didn’t pay attention in class, he sassed his teachers, and he antagonized his principal. As a result, he received extremely pitiful grades. Christie, who is Hank’s arch-nemesis, always seems to be at the top of her class. She studies, she takes notes. Heck, she even goes for the extra-credit, thus blowing the curve.

So, needless to say, when Report Card Day arrives, Hank and Christie are at opposite ends of the educational spectrum. She loves to tease Hank about his poor marks and she especially vexes him by describing his parents’ outraged reaction. I like how this strip came out. It’s a fan-favorite, too. Most readers like the multiple ha-ha’s in this one.

I’ll be diggin’ in the crates and pulling out some of the other “platinum hits” and explaining their creations. If you have any personal faves from the official website, let me know, and I’ll post up a lil’ behind-the-scenes special on ’em. Until then, keep enjoying Hank and the rest of the gang in Addanac City.

ADDANAC CITY 1/27/09 It Wasn’t Me!

AC 159

1-27-09~ I spent most of this morning checking out Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich’s TV interviews. This guy’s not going down without a fight. I respect his tenacity and I admire his “stick-to-it-iveness”. In fact, he reminds me a lot of our boy, Hank. Right or wrong, innocent or guilty, Hank is gonna defend himself to the bitter end. Ya gotta love that. So, I figured that who better to co-star in this particular “It wasn’t me” comic than the good ol’ guhvna? I got a kick outta this one, and I hope that you will, too.

ADDANAC CITY 9/23/08 School Pictures

I had a lotta fun with this strip! I remember how much of a big deal my mom used to make out of School Picture Day. I wish I had the nerve Hank has. I guess he figures that if he’s gotta get all dressed up for pictures, then he’s gonna make it interesting (for himself, at least). I really wish I could have seen his mother’s face when those pics came in. This was one of the first one-panel strips in the series. I figured this lil’ story could be told without 4-panels. I didn’t get lazy, trust me. 🙂
